Circuit des Deux Fontaines

Shady walk with places where water provides an invitation to rest awhile and dream. "Mont à miel" (hill of honey) is supposedly the origin of the name Montamel in Occitan. According to the writings of a learned local found in the Departemental archives, in the Middle Ages the Lord of Laroque used impose a levy payable in beeswax on his various fiefs. In Montamel, all the rent-payers were subject to this tax, which apparently served to light the castle ! According to the author, this intensive honey-producing activity in the village is proof of the origin of the name. Somewhat less romantic is the explanation that Montamel comes from "Amel", a personal name of Germanic origin.
