Cycling amongst the vines
When we went off on our travels… on bicycles !
The Lot Valley and Vineyards present a gentle, sleepy landscape dotted with pretty bastides such as Castelfranc, plus the imposing castle of Bonaguil and the mediaeval city of Cahors, "City of Art and History".
Get away from it all in the vineyards
This is also the ideal place to learn about the aromas of Cahors wine, to go bargain hunting at the antiques/second hand fairs in Grézels and Duravel, or to explore the superb village of Puy l'Evêque. To explore this valley at your own pace, the best plan is to get on your bike - or hire one !
A brief look at the cycle route (Véloroute)
This part of the Lot Valley is crossed by a 160 km long cycle route called Veloroute which is just the thing for casual riders bent on exploring the local cultural, gastronomic or human heritage. The route is signposted, the altitude difference minimal and the traffic far from dense (but nevertheless you do share the road with cars.) From your bike saddle, you can watch the countryside panorama glide past.
Three leaflets give details of the route along with its practical aspects and tourism opportunities.
Two of the leaflets deal with the portion of the route in the Lot, and there is one in the neighbouring Lot et Garonne.
